I am Dan. I live in Chicago. I see you are 15, so you weren’t around in the 90′s. Anyway one of the weirdest things that happened in the 90′s was Pepsi decided they’d put out a clear version of Pepsi. They called it Crystal Pepsi. It wasn’t supposed to taste different, but I thought it did. It seemed sweeter.
They had a huge marketing push behind it. They had a crazy commercial with that “Right Now” song by Van Halen. They framed it like it was a cultural movement, but it was just soda. Do you even know about Van Halen? You’ve probably heard some of their David Lee Roth songs. The Pepsi one was with Sammy Hagar. He was kind of like the Crystal Pepsi of Van Halen.
Anyway, people do stupid things all the time because we fetishize revolution. After all, that’s how we got here. The problem is we don’t know when and where it’s appropriate. We’ve done this in the past and will keep doing it in the future. One day you’re going to be old and saying things like “Who cares about Doritos-flavored soda? we need to make sure all dogs have Twitter accounts” or something. I guess we mean well but end up confusing ourselves more often than not. Anyway, hope all is well. Don’t look up that Pepsi commercial, it isn’t worth it.
